CELEBRATING MILES DAVIS: COLIN STEEL QUINTET + BIRTH OF THE COOL ENSEMBLE
Two acclaimed bands celebrate the mercurial trumpeter, making the music feel as fresh, as revelatory and innovative as it sounded in the ‘50s and ‘60’s
With thrilling empathy, phenomenal solos and a driving musical energy, Colin Steele’s trumpet fronts a Quintet who cover the classic music of Miles Davis’ seminal acoustic albums of the ‘50s and ‘60s, from “Milestones” to “Kind Of Blue”.
Richard Ingham’s outstanding Nonet recreates Miles’ classic “Birth of The Cool” with an all-star band including Colin Steele on trumpet and Martin Kershaw on sax.
Their 5-star Herald review of their Edinburgh Festival debut raved:
“Wow … a blissful hour of lush, slightly ethereal harmonies … a rare thrill to hear such classics as “Jeru”, “Moon”, “Dreams”, “Move” and “Godchild” being played live and with such panache and obvious enjoyment by this superb nine-piece outfit”.
