Dave Milligan : solo piano - "Did You Used To Be R.D. Laing?

(Solo Piano)

Did you used to be R.D.Laing? is a beautiful, award winning show written by Mike Maran. It tells the story of the pop-shrink, rebel, yogi, philosopher king, and healer, maybe, who rose to fame spectacularly in the 60's, was more difficult to get hold of than Mick Jagger, denounced normality for being mad, opened safe houses where schizophrenics could voyage safely through their madness, retreated to India to meditate, and disappeared with the 70s.

The show has received constant critical acclaim since it's debut at the 2000 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and now a specially recorded version of the music is available on CD.

Bachué "The Butterfly"

The third & final album from Bachué.

"It’s not often that a trio demands adjectives like 'orchestral' and 'cinematic' to describe the scale and power of their sound – but then you don’t hear many trios like Bachué. The big, bold and beautiful music currently being made by singer/harpist Corrina Hewat, pianist David Milligan and percussionist Donald Hay (joined here by trumpeter Colin Steele) offers ringing endorsement to a recent description of Scotland’s folk music scene as 'probably the most experimental in the world'”.

Bachué "A Certain Smile"

This was Bachué's second album and was highly acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. It was named as a folk album of the year by the Scotsman.

"Without a doubt, A Certain Smile is one of the most successful mixtures of jazz and Celtic. Bachué makes it sound as if tunes like 'The Rights of Man' or 'Kissin' is the Best of A'' were meant to be jazz standards." DIRTY LINEN MAGAZINE

Simon Thoumire & Dave Milligan "Third flight home"

The second album from virtuoso concertina player Simon Thoumire and Dave. It also features Deaf Shepherd fiddler Clare McLaughlin on the title track Third Flight Home.

"The combination of instruments is an unusual but effective one, and both players wear their considerable virtuosity lightly. Their selection of material, much of it from contemporary sources, is spot-on, and the music has a refreshing zest and sparkle that never flags, whether on conventional reels and Strathspeys from the Scottish tradition or more off-the-wall selections like Misha Alperin’s Wedding in the Wild Forest." Simon Thoumire & Dave Milligan "The big day in"

The second album from virtuoso concertina player Simon Thoumire and Dave. It also features Deaf Shepherd fiddler Clare McLaughlin on the title track Third Flight Home.

"Milligan has an uncanny ability to the make the piano sound like other instruments, such as a guitar or a drum, as on track 3’s ‘Tumble in Loch Tummel’ where dark pounding gives into strum-like chords. And Thoumire’s concertina playing, while offering a veneer of straight ahead trad, sometimes kicks tunes into near chaos only to scold them back to decorum in the next few notes, as on his version of ‘Keep it Up’. Highly recommended."
